Will of Peyton Clements

Dated December 10, 1774

In the name of God Amen the tenth of December in the year of Christ 1774 I, Peyton Clements of Granville County being of perfect sense & memory do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following To wit First and principally I commend my soul to God that gave it and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned and as touching such worldly the estate as it hath to pleased God to bestow on me I give and bequeath as followeth
Viz
Imprimis I leave to my wife Elizabeth the sole use and benefit of my land and plantation whereon I now live, with a child's part of all my other of estate during her life.

Item it is my will that all the rest and residue of my estate that is not already disposed be equally divided betwixt my children, Thomas, William, Tyree, Jesse, Philip and Grissell. And after my wife's the discease [sic] it is my desire that the aforesaid land and plantation should be sold and the money arising from the estate should be equally divided betwixt my children heretofore mentioned to them and their heirs for ever.

Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my trusty friends James Martin, William Burford and Elizabeth my wife to execute this my last Will and Testament.
