Clements DNA Project

There is an exciting new Y chromosome DNA testing project that is open to all males with "Clements" or related surnames (Clement, Clemens, Clemons, Clemmons, Clem and others)!  Because testing is done only on the Y chromosome, which females do not possess, the project is open to males only.   The basic premise of this testing is that genetic information is passed from father to son virtually unchanged via the Y chromosome, with any individual marker mutating about once in 500 generations.

Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) is the organization which has been chosen to conduct this testing.

There is a Clements testing project already created and the results so far have been very illuminating!  A known male direct descendent of Peyton Clements has already been tested and his results are available to be compared to all project participants.   Below is a chart showing his DNA results.

For those interested in this but have some questions, they may be answered in the FTDNA "Frequently Asked Questions" page.  There is also "DNA 101" site which explains DNA Y-Chromosome testing and its relation to genealogy in simple terms. If you are a male with a Clements or related surname, here is how to sign up  for this exciting new project!
